CATURGUA felicita a RIU Hotels & Resorts

The Guanacaste Tourism Chamber Association (CATURGUA) congratulated its member RIU Hotels & Resorts for the reopening of the Riu Guanacaste Hotel, following a comprehensive renovation that enhances the tourism experience in the region and reaffirms Guanacaste’s position as a world-class destination.

The iconic resort, located on the stunning shores of Playa Matapalo, has been completely modernized while preserving the natural and cultural essence that distinguishes the province. This renovation represents an important step in strengthening Guanacaste’s tourism offering, contributing to the destination’s competitiveness and the economic development of local communities.

Inaugurated in 2009 as RIU’s first hotel in Costa Rica and later joined in 2012 by Riu Palace Costa Rica, the renovated Riu Guanacaste now features redesigned rooms, restaurants, bars, and common areas. Its new interior style draws inspiration from the surrounding biodiversity, incorporating materials, colors, and details that reflect the environmental and cultural richness of the country.

With last year’s expansion, the hotel now offers 1,041 rooms—more spacious and filled with natural light—including eight exclusive swim-up suites with private pools. The common areas also shine with a new, more open and functional lobby, renewed gardens, and a completely restructured pool complex that now features six pools, three of them with swim-up bars.

The culinary offering has been enhanced with a greater variety of international restaurants—including Asian, Mexican, and Italian specialties, as well as a traditional steakhouse—alongside upgraded buffets, snack stations, a new ice cream shop, and a revamped Sports Bar under the American Country concept.
