The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) provided the full investment of ¢524 million, as part of the tangible results of the framework cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) for strengthening Sustainable Tourism Management in Costa Rica’s Protected Wilderness Areas, signed in March 2023.
This agreement is part of the ICT’s ongoing efforts to increase visitation by national and international tourists to conservation areas through the strategic design and construction of infrastructure projects aimed at improving services for travelers in some of the country’s most visited national parks.
“Costa Rica’s tourism offer stands out for its nature, biodiversity, and the richness of its national parks. It is essential that both national and international tourists have access to the minimum services required for a complete experience. Tenorio Volcano National Park will welcome visitors with world-class conditions: a modern and improved reception area, renovated restrooms, a store, and a first aid area. Without a doubt, visitors will enjoy an unforgettable and magical experience discovering the majestic Río Celeste waterfall, with better conditions and greater comfort,” stated William Rodríguez, Minister of Tourism.
Franz Tattenbach, Minister of Environment and Energy, affirmed: “The opening of this facility is a historic milestone, a reflection of the ongoing commitment to strengthening SINAC and the National Parks.” Tattenbach emphasized that Costa Rica must continue to improve infrastructure in protected wilderness areas to ensure tourist enjoyment while maintaining a leadership position as a world-class sustainable destination. “This new infrastructure at Tenorio National Park is a clear example of improving service capacity so that current visitors and future generations can enjoy and be inspired by nature and the rich natural heritage of Río Celeste. This project has become a reality thanks to the inter-institutional collaboration between MINAE and ICT, our great ally,” concluded the minister.
