- Expo Liberia Internacional 2023
Después de cumplirse más de 50 años de organizar la Expo Liberia, la Junta Directiva de la Cámara de Ganaderos se propone darle carácter internacional a esta actividad que se celebrará del 19 al 30 de junio con una amplia variedad de actividades taurinas, exposición de ganado, maquinaria agrícola, vehículos, además de un atractivo programa de conciertos y por supuesto un magnifico desfile de caballistas y tope de toros.
Arturo Aguilar Lizano, Coordinador de actividades taurinas y rodeo indicó que la exhibición y juzgamiento de ganado de las razas Cebú, Brahaman, Nelore y Gir, de criadores costarricenses como de sus homólogos de Panamá, Nicaragua, Honduras y Guatemala es uno de los eventos más importantes porque le da un carácter internacional al que contribuye la asesoría brindada por la Feria Livestok Show and Rodeo de Houston Texas que constituye el espectáculo de ganado más grande del mundo y que cuenta con un interesante programa de voluntariado.
“La Comisión organizadora, visitó Houston donde fuimos recibidos por los organizadores quienes además de asesorarnos estarán presentes en la Expo Liberia para conocer el desarrollo de las diferentes actividades además de instalar stands para ofrecer material genético para los ganaderos interesados en mejorar sus hatos” señaló el Coordinador de los eventos taurinos
Aguilar puntualizó que, en el aspecto cultural, cada día se llevarán a cabo pasacalles, así como un desfile de caballistas previsto para el 22 de julio.
Caballos
Este año los caballos tendrán mucho espacio en la feria y desde semanas anteriores, las diferentes asociaciones de cría y desarrollo de las razas costarricense de Paso, Iberoamericano, Española, así como los deportivos, especializados en competencias de cuarto de milla se preparan para exhibir y juzgar los mejores exponentes en el ring de la Cámara. El evento más importante del segmento equipo será el denominado “Estrellas de América” que es una selección de los mejores ejemplares de cada raza.
Espectáculos taurinos
Los asistentes a la Expo Liberia este año podrán disfrutar de corridas y montaderas con las ganaderías más selectas de la provincia como de Puntarenas e incluso Nicaragua donde existe mucha expectativa por la competencia que mantendrán seis de los mejores toros y montadores tanto de Costa Rica como de Nicaragua.
En cuanto a las ganaderías cabe señalar que estarán las de mayor prestigio como Beta del Monte, Ganadería del Sur, Hacienda Santa Rosa, Colono Real, Hacienda La Montaña, Ganadería San Pedro, Brisas del Bosque que serán las encargadas de participar en actividades tales como la presentación de la Selección de Pingüino que reúne a los mejores montadores cuya presentación será el 21 de julio, así como el Huracán Taurino previsto para el 25 de julio.
La organización del evento garantiza que todas las actividades se llevarán a cabo en forma ágil y ordenada con el fin de que participe el mayor número de asistentes quienes pagarán precios muy favorables si se toma en cuenta la calidad de los toros y montadores.
The Best Alternative for Enjoying Bullfighting Shows

After more than 50 years of organizing Expo Liberia, the Board of Directors of the Cattle Ranchers Association aims to give an international character to this event, which will take place from June 19th to 30th. It will feature a wide variety of bullfighting activities, livestock exhibitions, agricultural machinery, vehicles, as well as an attractive program of concerts and, of course, a magnificent horse parade and bull riding.
Arturo Aguilar Lizano, Coordinator of bullfighting activities and rodeo, indicated that the exhibition and judging of cattle from breeds such as Cebu, Brahman, Nelore, and Gir, from Costa Rican breeders as well as their counterparts from Panama, Nicaragua, Honduras, and Guatemala, is one of the most important events. This adds an international character, aided by the advice provided by the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which is the largest livestock show in the world and has an interesting volunteer program.
«The organizing committee visited Houston, where we were received by the organizers who, in addition to advising us, will be present at Expo Liberia to witness the development of the different activities. They will also set up stands to offer genetic material to farmers interested in improving their herds,» said the Coordinator of bullfighting events.
Aguilar emphasized that, in terms of cultural activities, there will be daily parades and a horse parade scheduled for July 22th.
Horses
This year, horses will have a significant presence at the fair. Various associations involved in the breeding and development of Costa Rican horse breeds such as Paso Fino, Ibero-American, and Spanish breeds, as well as those specializing in quarter-mile racing, are preparing to exhibit and judge the best specimens in the Chamber’s ring. The most important event for this segment will be the «Stars of America,» which is a selection of the best horses from each breed.
Bullfighting Shows
Attendees of Expo Liberia this year will be able to enjoy bullfights and bull riding with the finest cattle ranches from the province of Liberia and even from Puntarenas and Nicaragua. There is great anticipation for the competition between six of the best bulls and riders from both Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
Regarding the cattle ranches, it is worth noting that the most prestigious ones such as Beta del Monte, Ganadería del Sur, Hacienda Santa Rosa, Colono Real, Hacienda La Montaña, Ganadería San Pedro, and Brisas del Bosque will participate in activities such as the presentation of the Pingüino Selection, which brings together the best riders and will take place on July 21st, as well as the Taurine Hurricane scheduled for July 25th.
