Las condiciones que deberá enfrentar el sector pecuario de la provincia de Guanacaste por la presencia del fenómeno El Niño, unido al cambio climático en los próximos meses, ha motivado a la Junta Directiva de la Cámara de Ganaderos de Liberia a destinar el beneficio económico de la Expo Liberia Internacional 2026 a apoyar, mediante diferentes acciones, al sector pecuario.
Así lo dio a conocer Isaías Rivas Larios, presidente de la Cámara, quien indicó que este evento que se realizará del 15 al 26 de julio, en el marco de la celebración del 202 Aniversario de la Anexión del Partido de Nicoya a Costa Rica, ha sido planificado durante diez meses con el fin de ofrecer actividades innovadoras reconociendo que en toda la provincia se vivirá un ambiente de fiesta.
El representante del sector pecuario recordó que la organización de la Expo Liberia Internacional se sustenta en cuatro pilares: educación, cultura, entretenimiento y agro.
Congreso
Uno de los eventos más importantes de la Expo será la celebración del congreso agropecuario que reunirá a representantes del Gobierno como los ministros de Agricultura y Ganadería, de Trabajo, de Planificación, entre otros; para analizar el impacto del fenómeno El Niño y los efectos adversos del cambio climático en el futuro.
“Tenemos previsto llevar a cabo una mesa de trabajo en la cual, como sector afectado, tenemos la responsabilidad de presentar alternativas de solución, enfocándonos principalmente en el tema hídrico” comentó el Presidente de la Camara de Ganaderos de Liberia.
Añadió que insistirán en la necesidades de permitir que los productores pecuarios puedan habilitar pozos para satisfacer la sed del ganado, unido a la creación de un banco forrajero, esto dado a que una ayuda de parte del MAG o de otra organización de entregar tres pacas de pasto no es suficiente, porque eso lo consume el ganado en pocos días.
“No queremos nada regalado” sentenció Rivas al indicar que otro tema importante del congreso será insistir en la creación de un matadero al servicio de los ganaderos guanacastecos, así como el acceso a genética pecuaria de calidad, temas acerca de los cuales se resalta año tras año, sin que se llegue a presentar una propuesta concreta.
2026 Liberia International Expo focuses its support on the livestock sector
The conditions that the livestock sector in the province of Guanacaste will have to face due to the presence of the El Niño phenomenon, together with climate change in the coming months, have motivated the Board of Directors of the Liberia Cattle Ranchers’ Chamber to allocate the economic proceeds from the 2026 Liberia International Expo to support the livestock sector through different initiatives.
This was announced by Isaías Rivas Larios, president of the Chamber, who stated that the event, to be held from July 15 to 26 as part of the celebration of the 202nd Anniversary of the Annexation of the Partido de Nicoya to Costa Rica, has been planned over the past ten months in order to offer innovative activities, recognizing that a festive atmosphere will be experienced throughout the province.
The representative of the livestock sector recalled that the organization of the Liberia International Expo is based on four pillars: education, culture, entertainment, and agriculture.
Congress
One of the most important events of the Expo will be the agricultural congress, which will bring together Government representatives, including the Ministers of Agriculture and Livestock, Labor, Planning, among others, to analyze the impact of the El Niño phenomenon and the adverse effects of climate change in the future.
«We plan to hold a working session in which, as the affected sector, we have the responsibility to present alternative solutions, focusing primarily on water-related issues,» said the President of the Liberia Cattle Ranchers’ Chamber.
He added that they will continue insisting on the need to allow livestock producers to develop wells to provide water for their cattle, together with the creation of a forage bank. This is because assistance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) or another organization consisting of delivering three bales of hay is not sufficient, since the cattle consume that amount in just a few days.
«We do not want anything for free,» Rivas stated, noting that another important topic of the congress will be to continue advocating for the creation of a slaughterhouse to serve cattle ranchers in Guanacaste, as well as access to high-quality livestock genetics, issues that have been highlighted year after year without any concrete proposal being presented.
