Art and Popular Culture Will Take Over the Streets of Santa Cruz
Every January, the city of Santa Cruz becomes the stage where both local residents and visitors take part in a series of open-air activities marked by the joy and spirit of the Guanacastecan people.
At Bernabela Ramos Park, the central hub of the celebration, folkloric activities take place such as parades, masquerades, traditional dances, artistic performances, children’s games, craft workshops, marimba gatherings, and the sale of traditional foods.
The main avenue, taken over by marimba players, is transformed into a huge open-air dance hall from 1:00 p.m. until midnight.
The traditional Dianas, held at dawn, will set the tone for the mornings of January 15, 16, 17, and 18 starting at 5:00 a.m., filling the streets of the canton with music and joy.
The festivities will also include a series of traditional topes, bull-riding events with programming for all audiences, and finally, as is customary, on Sunday, January 18, the colorful and much-anticipated Burra Fiestera will take place a parade full of color, satire, costumes, and music that bids farewell to the celebration with the popular flavor of Santa Cruz.
